Basic Questions About EFT

What is the origin of EFT?

EFT is based on Thought Field Therapy (TFT), developed by Roger Callahan. The technique draws on principles from applied kinesiology, acupressure, and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

In the 1990s, Gary Craig simplified and systematized TFT into a more accessible and user-friendly method: EFT. This evolved into what is now known as Gold Standard EFT.

What psychological issues can EFT help with?

EFT is effective for virtually all emotional or psychological challenges, including:

  • Anxiety disorders, phobias, fear of failure
  • Depression, trauma (PTSD), addictions
  • Low self-esteem, bullying, procrastination
  • Relationship problems, aggression, autism, dyslexia
How can EFT help with physical complaints?

Chronic stress and unresolved emotions are often the root of physical issues. EFT helps release the emotional charge, providing relief for conditions such as:

  • Headaches, stomach pain, high blood pressure
  • Chronic fatigue, pain syndromes
  • Stress-related illnesses

Rather than masking symptoms, EFT targets the emotional root causes—creating the potential for true, lasting healing.

Can EFT be used with children?

Absolutely. EFT is safe and effective for children of all ages. It can help with:

  • School stress, bullying, concentration difficulties
  • Anxiety, anger, sadness, grief
  • Conditions such as ADHD or autism spectrum disorders

You can learn how to use it through our trainings or book a session with your child. Parents receive the protocol to continue practicing at home.

How does it differ from Faster EFT and Matrix Reimprinting?

Both are offshoots of EFT that share some foundations but are fundamentally different approaches.

  • Faster EFT combines Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) with a subset of EFT tapping points. Despite its name, it has not been proven to be faster or more effective than Gold Standard EFT.
  • Matrix Reimprinting incorporates inner-child work into tapping with the idea of ‘reprogramming’ negative memories. However, it addresses emotional processing differently than EFT does. With Gold Standard EFT and Optimal EFT, which uses the Unseen Therapist, such inner-child work often has a deeper and more lasting effect.

If the results with these spin-offs have been disappointing, switching to the two official forms of EFT via Novet is a worthwhile alternative.

What is the difference between EFT, Tapping, and Gold Standard EFT?

The terms EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) and Tapping are often used interchangeably. Tapping simply refers to the act of gently tapping on specific meridian points on the body—an essential part of EFT.

Gold Standard EFT is the official method developed by EFT founder Gary Craig since 2011. Only certified training centers recognized by him, such as Novet, are authorized to use this term and teach this original form of EFT.

Is there another form of EFT for couples therapy?

Yes, but it refers to something entirely different. Emotionally Focused Therapy is a form of couples counseling that has no connection with Emotional Freedom Techniques. The use of the same abbreviation is purely coincidental and understandably confusing.

However, with Novet’s EFT, you can also successfully address relationship problems. Unlike traditional talk therapy, we don’t stay at the cognitive level—we help identify and resolve the underlying emotional triggers and patterns.
